Have you ever played rugby?

Have you never played rugby, but the idea of a fun outdoors activity appeals to you?

If so, then Walking Rugby could be just what you are looking for.

Forget preconceptions of tackling, scrums and lineouts. Think fresh air, good physical exercise and plenty of fun added in.

Our rugby group was started some 4 years ago thanks to the drive and ambition of our u3a Vice Chair David Mills from whom I have taken over as lead.

We think we may be the only walking rugby group currently in the whole U3A…surely not, this is too much fun to keep to ourselves!

The rules are kept to a minimum, this helps with assimilating non-players. Experience shows people easily adapt and learn the basics and can fully participate very quickly.

This means a premium on handling skills, movement and passing, and the avoidance of anything but the “touch” tackle to promote a safe playing experience.

No scrums, no lineouts, no physical tackling, but all the enjoyment of a sevens/touch rugby experience.

Our group has a few ex-players, more non-players and a good number of ladies.

We have the support of a fully qualified referee to help us through four 7 minute sessions.

GENERAL INFORMATION.

You will need to have some general sportswear, good trainers with good grip and probably a lightweight waterproof top should the weather misbehave!

The games are fun but require a measure of fitness and balance. The games involve plenty of stop/start/twist movements, but we emphatically try to avoid contact.

If you are in good health, reasonably fit and enjoy playing sport then these sessions will certainly help your overall fitness.

Trust me, this will help keep your heart healthy and your limbs nimble!

If you would like to get in contact prior to attending a session I will be happy chat through anything you might want to know to you make your first session go well.
